Skopje, 3 August 2022 (MIA) – We need an opposition that will rise above itself, an opposition that will talk about how to speed up processes towards the EU. Right now, we need to discuss what the negotiating teams should look like and how the Parliament should work. I believe the blockades shouldn’t continue, especially since as of September we’re in for the last and most difficult part of the year in terms of the economic crisis, Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski said Wednesday.
According to Kovachevski, there will be no early elections, nor a referendum. “Ahead of us is a new step in the country’s development. We’ve already started the negotiation process and there’s no going back from that process. We need to complete the screening as soon as possible, and fulfill the obligations in terms of including certain nations living in the country.”
“There’s time for the opposition to convince itself that the current steps taken by the state are the right ones. I also believe that in time more and more citizens, especially those who believe in the European idea and in a prosperous state, will join the EU process. For eleven years this country was held hostage, for eleven years someone was only into monuments in the center of Skopje, trying to create disputes with the neighbors and at home, and we also witnessed tensions on an ethnic basis. That’s no longer the case today. I believe in the capacity of our people, I believe we had the fastest NATO integration. I believe we will also have the fastest EU integration,” Kovachevski said in an interview with Kanal 5 TV.
Kovachevski reiterated he is a rational optimist regarding negotiations with the EU.
“I’m a rational optimist in terms of the negotiations, which means I believe in achieving the goal, I’m working on it, and the goal will be achieved. This is an irreversible process in the forward, a process that takes the country forward. It’s up to all of us how quickly we move forward and how quickly we become an EU member,” Kovachevski stressed.
