Kovachevski - Ribeiro: North Macedonia on right track regarding media freedom 
Skopje, 14 September 2022 (MIA) - North Macedonia is on the right track regarding media freedom and rights and is in line with the international standards in the field of media, it was concluded Wednesday during Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski's meeting with Teresa Ribeiro, OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media, and the Head of the OSCE Mission to Skopje, Clemens Koja. It was also concluded that the media and the civil sector play an important role in the development of democracy and that freedom of the media is key for security and stability in any country, said the government in a press release noting the importance of objective and professional journalism and of a quality and professional public service to produce accurate, unbiased and timely information of significance of the citizens. Talks also included discussions on the importance of the issue of safety of journalists. The government is fully committed to respecting and applying European standards in the media area, said PM Kovachevski. "The government respects freedom of the media and journalists enjoy full support also when it comes to protection of their rights and safety. After launching negotiations with the EU, the country as part of the negotiating process will include all regulations guided by the good European practices, aimed at improving media quality and professionalism and protecting the rights of journalists and media workers," stated Kovachevski. The interlocutors also discussed opportunities opened by the good cooperation with OSCE to share new experiences and information in the field, said the press release. Also, PM Kovachevski thanked Ambassador Koja, whose term in Skopje is ending, for his dedication and contribution to the democratic processes in the country.
