Skopje, 27 September 2023 (MIA) – In response to VMRO-DPMNE leader Hristijan Mickoski’s statement that they intend to block the amnesty law in Parliament, Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski said that blockade is the strategy of the opposition which it constantly uses, and added that the Justice Minister will hold a media briefing Thursday at 12pm, during which he will present the proposed law in detail.

“There is no legislation in Parliament that the opposition hasn’t blocked. Blockade has been the opposition’s strategy ever since I’ve been a part of the Government and a part of the parliamentary debate, whether as Deputy Minister of Finance or Prime Minister. This is probably something they’ve learned during the 11 years of their rule, when we had blocked Euro-integrations, blocked NATO integrations, blocked relations with the neighbors, blocked economic development,” said Kovachevski, in answer to journalist’s questions.

Kovachevski said that the Justice Minister will hold a media briefing on Thursday, at 12pm, during which he will present the amnesty law in detail. He added that the goal of the law is to reduce the overcrowding in the prison system and enable normal sanctioning, i.e., “making any amnesty impossible for those who have committed serious crimes.”
