Justice Minister Marichikj expects changes to Electoral Code to be made after local elections
Shtip, 2 September 2021 (MIA) – Changes to the Electoral Code will be discussed after the local elections. Minister of Justice Bojan Marichikj said on Thursday that it’s nonsensical to make changes now and disturb the election process by changing the rules so close to the elections. “The government is not planning on making this move now, because we couldn’t make changes before Parliament’s summer break. Even if MPs see the need for changes, there’s not a lot of time until the elections. Parliament will work until September 27, before taking a break due to the election campaign,” Marichikj told reporters. He underlined that the Ministry of the Justice and the government will assist in making the changes to the Electoral Code ahead of the local elections if the need arises. Some OSCE/ODIHR recommendations, the Minister added, aren’t ties to specific deadlines, but it all depends on the will of the Parliament.
