Skopje, 3 April 2025 (MIA) - Interior Minister Panche Toshkovski, quizzed about the arrest of a member of Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski’s security detail suspected of disclosing an official secret, said Thursday this is one of the cases where the Interior Ministry is demonstrating its non-selective fight against criminals within its ranks.
“Many charges have been filed in the past against criminals within the ranks of the Interior Ministry, that is the case here as well. After receiving information as part of an investigation, the department for internal control notified a competent public prosecutor, who ordered activities the same evening. Following the implementation of the operation, searches were also carried out of several police officers by the department for internal control, which identified evidence of the crime,” Toshkovski told journalists.
The Minister said the Macedonian citizens “deserve a police force that will protect them”.
“I want to tell all bad actors and traitors of their kind, the criminals within the Interior Ministry, that we will lead a non-selective and uncompromising fight against them. The Macedonian citizens deserve a police force that will protect them, not one made up of racketeers,” Toshkovski said.
The Interior Minister did not want to reveal more details about the investigation, noting that once the Ministry has the necessary information, they will be shared with the public.
A member of Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski’s security detail, Angel Saramakov, was arrested and placed in 30-day detention. Saramakov is suspected of disclosing an official secret.
