Health expenditures see increase in 2020: statistics

Skopje, 25 July 2022 (MIA) – Total current health expenditures in 2020 stood at Mden 51,750 million and saw 5.7% increase compared to 2019, State Statistical Office data show.
“All types of current health expenditures by health care functions and financing schemes in 2020 increased compared to 2019. The total expenditures on curative care in financing schemes were Mden 28,445 million in 2020, while in 2019 they amounted to Mden 27,657 million, which represents an increase of 2.8%,” says the State Statistical Office. Hospital expenditures on curative care totaled Mden 17,110 million, i.e. 84% of the total expenditures of hospitals by health care functions. In terms of health care providers, hospitals had the biggest share of expenditures with Mden 20,361 million in 2020, and Mden 18,818 million in 2019. “Government schemes and compulsory contributory health care financing schemes had the largest share in the current health expenditures, amounting to Mden 31,337 million in 2020 and Mden 29,556 million in 2019,” according to the State Statistical Office.
