Gov’t to adjust tax policy to ensure global minimum corporate tax is paid in full within country: PM

Skopje, 4 December 2024 (MIA) - Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski told journalists Wednesday that by the end of the year the Government would adjust its tax policy to ensure that the global minimum corporate tax rate of 15 percent on businesses is paid in full within the country.

The PM said the businesses have been notified and are not opposed to the decision.

“All businesses who, on a global level, have income of more than EUR 750 million, and more than EUR 10 million in our country, as well as more than EUR 1 million in profits, must pay a consolidated profit tax of 15 percent,” Mickoski said.

He outlined that according to the current tax system in the country, businesses pay a flat tax of 10 percent, which means they pay a 10 percent tax on their profits in the country, and 5 percent in their country of origin.

“This isn’t fair, if they are profiting from the Macedonian citizens, then these 15 percent should be paid here. This kind of adjustment to the tax policy will happen by the end of the year. The Government has notified the businesses who meet the criteria, and they have nothing against the decision,” Mickoski said.
