Global peace and fair elections a priority for governments, says Xhaferi before Munich Security Conference

Skopje, 16 February 2024 (MIA) – Global peace and securing fair and democratic elections for over 2 billion people is a priority for the governments in the world, said caretaker Prime Minister Talat Xhaferi in Munich ahead of the first bilateral meetings on the sidelines of this year’s Munich Security Conference.

According to a government press release, Xhaferi said the main focus of the conference will likely be the situation in Ukraine, as well as the situation in the Middle East. “Additionally,” added the PM, “security and defense in Europe will also be a topic of discussion, as well as Europe’s role in this context.”

“Of course the conference will be significant too because more than 65 countries in the world, over 2 billion citizens will have a chance to voice their will [at elections], and of course it is of special interest to ensure the existence of the appropriate democratic preconditions for free, fair elections that will produce the new institutions in the countries,” stressed Xhaferi.

The PM said he would hold bilateral meetings with several counterparts from other countries on the sidelines of the conference.

“The appropriate cooperation with them all and our situation with the documents will be some of the topics that we exchange views on with the colleagues that I will have a chance to hold bilateral meetings with,” stressed Xhaferi.
