Skopje, 31 May 2022 (MIA) – History must stay away from politics. If we talk about the future and include the past, it will be very difficult to find a solution, Macedonian historian Dragi Gjorgiev said Tuesday in response to a reporter’s question on whether Bulgaria’s demands are acceptable as part of the EU negotiating framework. “We’ve stated several times that history must stay away from politics. This must be respected. History must be kept away from the political process of talks between the two countries,” Gjorgiev told reporters ahead of a promotion of editions of the Institute for National History at the Museum of Macedonian Struggle. Asked whether he finds the Bulgarian views acceptable, Gjorgiev said the result of the Commission shows there are big differences and no absolute agreement of both parties over certain historical issues.
