Skopje, 20 May 2025 (MIA) - Minister of Energy, Mining and Mineral Resources, Sanja Bozhinovska, met with Director-General at the Directorate-General for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations (DG NEAR), Gert Jan Koopman, in Brussels on Tuesday. 

Minister Bozhinovska briefed Director-General Koopman on the Ministry's work so far, with a particular emphasis on implemented reforms, ongoing investments in renewable energy sources and plans for a just energy transition, the Minister's Office said in a press release. 

"Macedonia has a clear vision for a modern, competitive and climate-sustainable energy portfolio. We are working in parallel on the implementation of the new Law on Energy, attracting investments and using European financing instruments," Minister Bozhinovska said, as cited in the press release. 

Koopman commended achievements so far, encouraging the country to continue reforms and show further ambition in applying for available European Union instruments.

In addition, interlocutors looked at future opportunities for deepened cooperation through investments in energy infrastructure, support for the green agenda, and boosting institutional capacity in the energy sector.

The meeting took place in a constructive atmosphere, reaffirming Macedonia's strategic commitment to European integration through concrete results and reform processes in the energy sector, reads the press release.
