Mucunski highlights need for credible and predictable EU enlargement process at Atlantic Council event in Washington

Skopje, 9 April 2026 (MIA) - As part of his trip to Washington D.C., Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Timcho Mucunski addressed an event hosted by the Atlantic Council, focusing on the trans-Atlantic priorities of the Republic of North Macedonia, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade said Thursday.
According to the Ministry, in his address Mucunski highlighted the country’s key foreign policy priorities, stressing the commitment to strengthen the strategic partnership with the United States, as well as the country’s active role as a reliable security partner within NATO and the region.

Mucunski also touched upon efforts to advance economic cooperation, including ongoing initiatives to deepen bilateral trade relations with the U.S.
In the context of the European integration, the Foreign Minister reaffirmed North Macedonia’s strategic commitment to join the European Union, pointing out the challenges related to bilateral issues and underscoring the need for a credible and predictable enlargement process.

Mucunski emphasized priorities to strengthen regional cooperation and stability in the Western Balkans, as well as the importance of the trans-Atlantic partnership in tackling modern security and geopolitical challenges.
The event was held as part of the “Balkans Forward” initiative of the Atlantic Council, with the participation of representatives of the political, academic, and analytical sector.
