Government adopts UK strategic partnership agreement

Skopje, 20 May 2025 (MIA) - The Government adopted Tuesday the strategic partnership agreement with the United Kingdom, authorizing Deputy PM and Transport Minister Aleksandar Nikoloski to sign it at a ceremony scheduled for Thursday in London.

The Government delegation will also include Deputy PM Izet Mexhiti, Minister of Education and Science Vesna Janevska, and Macedonian Railways-Infrastructure director Sinisha Ivanovski.

"The UK government is putting EUR 6 billion at disposal for realization of projects in Macedonia. These funds will be spent exclusively for projects. We are entering into partnership with the UK, a key western ally, which clearly defines the Government's policy and the country's position as a pro-western state that observes Euro-Atlantic values. The purpose of the agreement is to establish partnership for realization of infrastructure projects in the sectors of health, transport, technology, energy, digital transformation," Deputy PM Nikoloski told a press conference.

Nikoloski said the cooperation will comply with the laws, regulations and policies of both countries.

During the London visit, the Government delegation will meet with the UK ministers of home affairs and defense, as well as the Ryanair leadership, "from which we expect to agree on new flights to and from Skopje".

The key infrastructure project within the agreement is the construction and rehabilitation of the Corridor X railway section from Tabanovce to Gevgelija (north-south), along with the construction of a Faculty of Medicine campus in Shtip.
