Ohrid, 11 August 2021 (MIA) – Flautist Zach Tarpagos and pianist Valeria Charitidou are set to give a concert at the Ohrid Summer Festival on Wednesday. Zach Тarpagos is a permanent flutist at the Greek National Opera. His activity includes appearances as a soloist in concert venues around the world such as the Tchaikovsky Hall in Moscow, Boston Symphony Hall, Tokyo Opera City Concert Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall, Athens and Thessaloniki Concert Hall, Onassis Foundation Concert Hall, Stavros Niarchos Hall. As associate of the orchestra Armonia Atenea /Camerata Music Orchestra, he has recorded with period baroque and classical instruments for Deutsche Gramophone and Decca Classics and has appeared in international festivals such as the BBC Proms in London, the Salzburg Festival in Austria, Bayreuth Festival etc. His chamber music performances have taken Zach Tarpagos to different parts of the world including the Blue Rose Room at Suntory Hall in Tokyo. Music critics praise him for his “wonderfully delicate tone and clear sound”. Zach organizes and supports sustainable music education platforms for children who live in extreme conditions of poverty, social discrimination and great unfavorable conditions in Greece and abroad aiming at quality improvement of their lives through music education and interaction. Born in Georgia, Valeria Charitidou studied with Inessa Tschovrebashvili and graduated from the Tiblisi Experimental School of Music in 2003. She continued her studies at the National Conservatoire of Thessaloniki in the class of Victoria Victoratou, where she graduated with honors in 2007. She went on to study in Leuven (Belgium) in the class of Joop Celis. Meanwhile she attended master classes by well-known artists such as Dora Bakopoulou, Bernard Ringaissen, Anna Kulikova and George – Emmanuel Lazaridis. She has performed with orchestras such as the Symphony Orchestra of the Mediterranean, the State Orchestra of Thessaloniki, the Municipal Orchestra of Thessaloniki, Symphonic Band of Thessaloniki, Orchestra Sinfonica Ciudad de Elche, and given a plethora of recitals and chamber music concerts in Georgia, Greece and Cyprus. She has won several prizes at competitions in Greece. Aside from her many activities as a performer, Valeria Charitidou is also a sought-after accompanist and pedagogue. She was recently appointed piano professor at the Municipal Conservatoire of Thessaloniki and accompanist at the State Conservatory of Thessaloniki. The concert will take place at the St. Sophia Church starting at 9 pm.
