FinMin Besimi meets U.S. Treasury officials over support for development of public finance management capacities
Skopje, 13 October 2022 (MIA) – The United States Department of the Treasury's Office of Technical Assistance (OTA) is prepared to support the development of capacities for public finance management and the fight against informal economy and anti-money laundering policies, heard a meeting between Finance Minister Fatmir Besimi and Treasury Deputy Assistant Secretary for Technical Assistance Policy, William Larry McDonald, in Washington on Wednesday. Minister Besimi said the Government has been working on measures and plans towards reducing informal economy in recent years, drafting an action plan in the field. In addition, the new Law on Budgets is a key reform in the public finance sector, providing a framework for a sound, predictable and sustainable fiscal policy. U.S. technical assistance in these activities would be of crucial importance, the Finance Ministry said in a press release. Discussions also focused on the opportunities for enhancement of economic cooperation and realization of new projects supported by USAID and the U.S. Embassy to North Macedonia. Interlocutors agreed that the energy and price crisis is a priority at this time, while maintaining macroeconomic stability that is in the focus of the new set of Government measures. During his visit to Washington, FinMin Besimi is set to meet with several World Bank and IMF executives, reads the press release.
