Council of Public Prosecutors president joins Dameva in calls for individual instead of collective responsibility

Skopje, 5 July 2024 (MIA) - The president of the Council of Public Prosecutors, Dushica Dimitrievska, commenting on the plans for a possible dissolution of the Judicial Council and the Council of Public Prosecutors, said she believes individuals should be held responsible instead of the collective.

“In any case it can cause harm since the institutions must have their continuity, work must be done to improve the legislation wherever certain issues are identified. However, we can’t have collective responsibility. We must have individual responsibility, holding those stakeholders who have broken the law responsible,” Dimitrievska said.

On Wednesday, the president of the Judicial Council, Vesna Dameva, also told reporters that she doesn’t support the thesis of collective responsibility. Responsibility must be detected and sanctioned individually, she said.

“As a legalist above all, I don’t subscribe to the thesis of collective responsibility, my personal position is that there should be individual responsibility, and it should be accurately detected and sanctioned. Everyone responsible has a first name and a last name, they should be detected and sanctioned individually if they have done something illegal, undermined the reputation and integrity of the Judicial Council or made a decision under the influence of various emotions etc.,” Dameva said.
