Finance Ministry: EUR 100 million secured for energy crisis management and capital investments
Skopje, 1 September 2022 (MIA) – The state is securing more than EUR 100 million for the energy crisis management and capital investments to improve the utility infrastructure in municipalities. The decisions were adopted at yesterday’s Government session and are aimed to improve the living conditions of citizens, said the Ministry of Finance on Thursday. Through the decision, Power Plants of North Macedonia has about EUR 50 million at disposal for the purpose of increasing its production and ensuring additional electricity quantities. “The company will use the financial support to ensure the supply of basic raw materials: coal, crude oil and other materials to resume the electricity production and uninterrupted electricity supply. This is part of the measures undertaken to ensure continued electricity supply amid a period of global energy crisis,” says the ministry. In addition, funds in the amount of EUR 50 million are secured for realization of capital investments, namely improvement of the water supply infrastructure of municipalities. These funds will be provided by the European Investment Bank and municipalities will get them as donation. The funds are to be used for rehabilitation, modernization and enlargement of the water supply infrastructure, such as water intake, water treatment stations, transmission networks for raw and filtered water, water supply networks, energy efficiency measures, storm water systems and flood prevention measures. The Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning will be the project implementer, whereas municipalities and the City of Skopje will be the funds’ beneficiaries.
