Skopje, 30 December 2024 (MIA) - Upon a proposal by the Basic Public Prosecutor's Office Prosecuting Organized Crime and Corruption, a pre-trial judge at the Skopje-based Criminal Court has ordered eight days detention for the former Director General of Power Plants of North Macedonia (ESM), Vasko Kovachevski, who is unavailable to law enforcement and is suspected for the misappropriation of EUR 6.5 million. The Prosecutor’s Office also ordered the issuing of a national and international arrest warrant for Kovachevski.
The decision comes after the Court dismissed a previous proposal calling for precautionary measures for Kovachevski, since he is unavailable to law enforcement.
“In accordance with their authorizations, the public prosecutors in charge of the case submitted an appeal to the pre-trial judge immediately after the dismissal, as well as a proposal for detention that would enter into force once the suspect is found. The pre-trial judge accepted the proposal of the prosecution and ordered a detention of eight days for the suspect,” the Public Prosecutor’s Office said in a press release.
The investigation as part of the case dubbed “Additive” began on December 10, and it involves 23 individuals and 4 legal entities.
