Skopje, 9 October 2024 (MIA) – More than two-thirds of the 17 recommendations from the peer review mission to the Judicial Council have been implemented, Tanja Chacharova-Ilievska, a member of the Judicial Council of the Republic of North Macedonia, said Wednesday.
"We managed to implement almost all the recommendations through two instruments, which we use as the Judicial Council. We only got stuck where there were legal obstacles to continue the work," said Chacharova-Ilievska.
Asked what were the legal obstacles to implementing the remaining recommendations for the Judicial Council, Chacharova-Ilievska said the elections, i.e. the Electoral Code, were the brake for these recommendations, but their implementation is ongoing.
"In order to step up the review processes, the selection, disciplinary procedures, we had to stop them, we put them on hold due to obstacles in Article 8 A of the Electoral Code and waited until the election of the Government," Chacharova-Ilievska said.
She added that these procedures are now underway and the Judicial Council will continue the work at its next sessions, because, she noted, there were stages that had to be completed after the election process.
