Bytyqi - Smith: UK and North Macedonia have excellent economic partnership and great potential for development
- Deputy PM for Economic Affairs Fatmir Bytyqi met Thursday with the British Deputy Head of Mission Julia Smith. Talks focused on the excellent economic ties between the two counties, also demonstrated by the recent interest of two UK companies to implement strategic projects in North Macedonia.
Skopje, 22 February 2024 (MIA) - Deputy PM for Economic Affairs Fatmir Bytyqi met Thursday with the British Deputy Head of Mission Julia Smith. Talks focused on the excellent economic ties between the two counties, also demonstrated by the recent interest of two UK companies to implement strategic projects in North Macedonia.
Deputy PM Bytyqi informed Deputy Head of Mission Smith about the legal procedures surrounding the implementation of strategic investments, pointing out that one of those investments is currently in a parliamentary procedure, while another is in a decision-making process. The positive experience of the largest company in the country, Johnson Matthey, they said, can help other UK companies see North Macedonia as a place to expand their business activities, the Government said in a press release.
Talks also focused on the importance of continuing to promote the excellent political partnership between both counties, including the possible mutual benefits. Both sides expressed the need to continue cooperation and dialogue as to respond to common geopolitical challenges and make use of arising opportunities. Interlocutors addressed the upcoming EBRD Summit that will be held next week in London, which Bytyqi is set to attend.
Additionally, Bytyqi and Smith spoke about the importance of regional economic cooperation within the Western Balkans as a reflection of the commitment to encourage closer relationships between countries in the region, promote stability and prosperity on the road to EU membership. Interlocutors expressed optimism for the future trajectory of bilateral relations and confirmed their commitment to further strengthen cooperation in various spheres, reads the press release. ssh/ik/
