Bytyqi: Prices to drop by 30 percent if government implements Law on Unfair Trade Practices

Skopje, 10 February 2025 (MIA) - There is no will and vision to solve the issues of the minimum wage and the price hikes, which are unprecedented amid low inflation, says SDSM MP and former deputy prime minister for economic affairs Fatmir Bytyqi.

Bytyqi tells Racin that prices will drop by at least 30 percent if the Law on Unfair Trade Practices is properly implemented, SDSM said in a press release.

"If the rules are clear and someone is manipulating them because a back door has been found for the sake of profit, the government cannot stay silent because it has the mechanism to prevent this. We are the first country in the Western Balkans to have a Law on Unfair Trade Practices, which if implemented consistently, will lead to reduced prices by at least 30 percent. What are we seeing instead? Turmoil on a daily basis. If the law is implemented starting today, there will be order in a week," says Bytyqi.

According to him, a minimum wage in the amount of Mden 30,000 (EUR 500) should be a reality, stimulating growth and the average wage.
