Skopje, 23 March 2023 (MIA) – Alternativa has drafted a constitutional amendment which would scrap the statute of limitations for crimes committed by elected and appointed officials from the legislative and executive branches and the local government, said party spokesperson Orhan Murtezani at a press conference on Thursday.

Murtezani stressed the party drafted the constitutional amendment in consultations with jurists and added they have invited constitutional experts and other political parties to a broad public debate.

“Our goal is to create a constitutional instrument that would refer to all elected and appointed officials in the legislative and executive branches and the local government, who have gained unlawful property benefits by abusing their positions. Alternativa proposes that the laws have a retroactive effect and apply to cases of abuse by elected and appointed officials that have caused harm to public funds and central and local budgets, for which the statute of limitations has expired,” said Murtezani. ad/ik/
