"Ecstatic Bodies: Archive of Performative Queer Bodies in Macedonia" kicks off Skopje Pride Weekend 2022

Skopje, 2 June 2022 (MIA) – An exhibit titled "Ecstatic Bodies: Archive of Performative Queer Bodies in Macedonia" will kick off the Skopje Pride Weekend 2022 at the Museum of Contemporary Art (MoCA) on Thursday evening. The 10th Pride Weekend will be held in two parts this year, from 2-11 June and 15-17 September at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Mala Stanica, MKC, Comedy Theater, KSP JADRO and Stanica 26, the organizer says. Skopje Pride Weekend is a festival of queer culture, art and theory, which aims to create a space to present and promote the non-normative forms of world formation, or the relations, affects, identity positions, body styles and sensibilities marked by the heteronormative, nationalist and neoliberal capitalist context as queer, eccentric and unsuccessful. “We’re opening this year’s festival on June 2 at the MoCA at 8:30 PM, with the exhibit titled Ecstatic Bodies: Archive of Performative Queer Bodies in Macedonia, curated by Slavcho Dimitrov and Biljana Tanurovska-Kjulavkovski, within which archive materials and works by Wolfgang Tillmans, Nora Stojanovikj, Milosh Kodzoman and Dragoljub Bezhan, Hristina Ivanoska, Velimir Zhernovski, Jane Chalovski, Kocho Andonovski, Natasha Geleva, MoCA Skopje, STEAM ROOM, Aleksandar Georgiev, Viktorija Ilioska and many more,” the organizers say. Hristina Ivanovska’s latest performance art and Aleksandar Georgiev’s latest choreography will be performed during the opening, and the audience will also get to see a performance by Julie Tolentino and Stosh Fila on June 3 at the MoCA. “We’re proud to present the legendary David Hoyle on June 4, known in the 1990s as Divine David. We’re also pleased to announce a public lecture by Jasmina Tumbas on June 7 who will present her latest book published by Manchester University Press titled I Am Jugoslovenka!, Performative Presentations by Jasmine Hearn, Zavé Martohardjono, J. Bouey and Sarah A.O. Rosner in Mala Stanica in cooperation with Lokomotiva, and the June edition of the festival will close with our favorite PeachPreach and SHAME ON YOU! – A Night of Telling Queer Stories,” Margini says. The schedule states that a dance performance by French choreographer Matthieu Hocquemiller, a performance by Julischka Stengele from Austria, and a night of vogueing and drag entertainment are slated for the September portion of the event. #SPW is organized by Coalition MARGINS and the LGBTI Support Center, in partnership with Lokomotiva, MoCA Skopje, CSS JADRO, Tiiiit!Inc. and Terapija. #SPW is supported by: Ministry of Culture of N.Macedonia, Heinrich Böll Stiftung, Friedrich Ebert Stiftung, US Embassy Skopje the French Embassy, Open Society Foundation Macedonia and Sigrid Rausing Trust.
