Mitsotakis: Violation or selective implementation of Prespa Agreement will threaten stability and security in region

Athens, 10 July 2024 (MIA) – Violation or selective implementation of the Prespa Agreement will threaten stability and security in the region, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis stressed, among other, at the first session of the NATO Summit, Greek news agency ANA-MPA reports, citing its own information, MIA's Athens correspondent reports.

Mitsotakis also noted that "progress, security and prosperity are based on respect for international law and international agreements".

As regards the position of the U.S. President who underlined the importance of the Western Balkans for the security of the Alliance, ANA-MPA reports, Mitsotakis specifically referred to the Prespa Agreement, which he said enabled the enlargement of the Alliance with the accession of North Macedonia.

"The full implementation of the Prespa Agreement, the Prime Minister said, is essential for the Alliance, for the Western Balkans and for the international community. Violation or selective implementation of the Prespa Agreement, he continued, will undermine the credibility of all efforts to resolve other outstanding issues in the Western Balkans and threaten stability and security in the region," Greek news agency ANA-MPA reports, regarding Mitsotakis' address.

In parallel, the Greek PM added "Pacta sunt servanda", pointing out that "we must all remember this".

At the same time, Greek media focus on Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski's statement because he used the term "Macedonia".
