Xhaferi: Sufficient time to get documents until elections

Skopje, 6 March 2024 (MIA) - Caretaker Prime Minister Talat Xhaferi said Wednesday that the Ministry of Interior has intensified the pace regarding the issuance of personal documents and if this tempo continues, citizens could get the required documents until the elections. If some do not hold documents with the new name until the elections, the Government will decide accordingly.

"The Ministry of Interior statistics in February show the following: there were 123,983 passport applications and 95,267 issued passports; 82,235 ID applications and 71,410 issued; 46,280 driving license applications and 39,552 issued. Considering this pace and the fact there are 50 days until Election Day, the 100,000 citizens that are being mentioned as having no personal documents could get them in the course of March, provided the citizens apply. This is the procedure in place. Eventually, if we come to a situation that a certain number of citizens do not have documents, it is our obligation to take a decision on how to proceed further," said Xhaferi.

The caretaker PM said he personally does not prefer to speak hypothetically but come out and say that problems have been solved.

"The first issue I faced when assuming this office was the protest at the Health Insurance Fund - we solved it, then the school problem in Chashka - we solved it. I do not want to speak hypothetically how it will be done, but inform everyone when it is solved," noted Xhaferi.
