Xhaferi says Speaker can adjourn session in event of no quorum or if deems it necessary

Skopje, 5 October 2023 (MIA) - Article 81 of the Parliament's Rules of Procedures states that the Speaker can adjourn a session in event of no quorum or in cases he deems it necessary, says Parliament Speaker Talat Xhaferi on the adjourned session related to the constitutional amendments.

Speaker Xhaferi told Telma that in the case of the constitutional amendments, he has used the second option.

"It is my exclusive right to assess whether the session should be adjourned or not. I have this right as per the Rules of Procedures," says Xhaferi.

On the presidential elections, the Speaker says they must be held within the last 60 days of the term of the incumbent president.

"These 60 days expire on May 12. Therefore, the second round of the presidential elections can take place by May 5 at the latest," says Xhaferi.

Regarding the regular parliamentary elections, they must be held within the last 90 days of the term of the current composition.

"The earliest date for the elections is May 5. If we want to hold regular presidential and parliamentary elections, then May 5 is the overlapping date. All dates prior to May 5 require the Parliament's dissolution and early elections," said Xhaferi.
