Will find technical solution for Corridor VIII with Brussels’ help, says PM

Skopje, 3 September 2024 (MIA) - Criminals won’t profit from the Corridor VIII project, i.e., the construction of the section to the border with Bulgaria, and the Government, together with Brussels, will find a technical solution, said Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski on Tuesday.

“We are communicating with those in charge in Brussels, we are ready for technical dialogue. We accepted the offer to participate in the process in Brussels as part of which we will find a technical solution together. And it’s good that we fought for this to avoid wasting at least EUR 500 million from the Macedonian taxpayers and EUR 250 million from European taxpayers on a procedure full of technical shortcomings and founded suspicion of crime and corruption,” Mickoski told journalists.

Mickoski called for patience when asked about reporting the alleged bribery attempt to the authorities.

“What really matters is that the criminals won’t profit from this project, because the Ministry of Transport withdrew the members of the tender committee. The tender committee no longer has a legitimacy to decide, and I expect the tender procedure for the third section of Corridor VIII, i.e., the railway between Kumanovo and the border with Bulgaria, to be scrapped,” Mickoski said.
