Trenchevska: Working group to review demands of protesting pensioners

Probishtip, 24 August 2023 (MIA) - A working group made up of representatives from the institutions as well as representatives from the Union of Pensioners' Associations, will look into the demands made by the protesting pensioners, in order to find a joint solution, the Minister of Labor and Social Policy, Jovanka Trenchevska said on Thursday in Probishtip.

"The proposals we received from pensioners will be reviewed by a working group. Which means that, the public will be informed about the initial proposals, including the pensioners," Trenchevska said when asked if representatives from the protesting initiative boards of pensioners will take part in the working group.

"The Pensioner's Association does not go against the demands of the pensioners, they want those demands to be reviewed by institutions and come to a joint solution," Trenchevska added.

Asked if a linear increase of pensions is being considered, Minister Trenchevska said that first they must get the opinion of the Constitutional Court and legal experts.

She confirmed that pensions will increase in September according to the law, and that they expect data from the State Statistical Office in order to determine the percentage of increase.

The main demands of the protesting pensioners include a linear increase of pensions by Mden 3.500 and that the minimum pension be raised to equal the minimum wage.

On Tuesday, the Government reviewed and adopted the Report from the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy on the establishment of a working group that will look into the issues concerning the lowest pensions in North Macedonia, as well as potential measures to help and support pensioners.ssh/ad/
