Skopje, 26 November 2024 (MIA) — Although the Ohrid–Kichevo highway has been the subject of much public speculation, parts of it would be complete by mid-2025 and all of it would be complete by the end of 2026 as promised, Minister of Transport Aleksandar Nikoloski said in a Sitel TV appearance on Tuesday evening.

He said the section between the village of Vrbjani to Ohrid would be put into use before the summer, "with one small exception near Botun, because of the landslide there."

Nikoloski said "the Ohrid–Kichevo highway is a symbol of this government's work and it will be a symbol of the incompetence of previous governments."

He added that in parallel, the rehabilitation of the existing road near the village of Botun had just started. He also announced a full rehabilitation of the Preseka mountain pass.

"As for the second section of the highway, from Vrbjani to above Kichevo, it will be completed by the end of 2026 and I stand behind these promises," the transport minister said. mr/
