Toshkovski in Azerbaijan: Building friendships to better deal with security challenges

Skopje, 11 March 2025 (MIA) — At the invitation of Azerbaijani Minister of Internal Affairs Vilayat Eyvazov, Interior Minister Panche Toshkovski is on a working visit to Azerbaijan on March 10-11.

According to the Ministry of Interior in a press release, Minister Toshkovski met his counterpart to discuss new ways of strengthening security cooperation.

"Minister Eyvazov and I discussed forms of cooperation that have not been established so far. Azerbaijan, as a strategically important country connecting different regions, has vast experience in dealing with security threats of a global nature," Toshkovski is cited as saying in the release.

The meeting, he said, was of great importance for bilateral ties and exchanging experiences in dealing with modern security challenges.

"We agreed to formalize our future cooperation through an agreement on security cooperation and a memorandum of understanding between our training centers," he said, adding that this would result in capacity building, exchanging experiences between law enforcement authorities and joint training courses.

During the visit to Azerbaijan, the Interior Ministry delegation led by Toshkovski has had the chance to see the country's advanced security systems, including their Safe City and Intelligent Transport management systems.

According to the release, learning from the Azerbaijani experiences with some of the most modern systems in the world can be helpful in developing the nation's own city security system.

"International security cooperation is essential, even with countries that are geographically far from us," the release said, adding that modern global challenges "know no borders."

"The exchange of experiences, good practices and partnerships with countries that have developed security solutions contribute to strengthening our system, resulting in a higher level of protection of our citizens," the release said. mr/
