Toshkovski: Every action by police officers related to journalist's detention to be reviewed

Skopje, 8 April 2024 (MIA) - The police's internal control department will review the actions by police officers related to the detention of journalist Furkan Saliu, said Minister of Interior Panche Toshkovski on Monday.

"The internal control department will proceed in line with its authorities and fully investigate every action undertaken by police officers in this case," Toshkovski told reporters.

He said the event should be seen as it is, namely a fight between two fan groups, which could have turned out to be more serious if the police had not intervened.

"The fans entered into an altercation and the police intervened to separate them. During the commotion, a person was detained for attacking other fans but also a police officer, who then pushed him to the ground. Other police officers and special police units were present in the vicinity at the moment of the arrest," said Minister Toshkovski.

In addition, he added, a gun was found in the vehicle owned by one of the detained.

"The owner of the gun holds a valid license but this does not mean he should not face at least misdemeanour charges, considering the procedures for firearm transport from point A to point B, whether it has a full or empty clip etc," noted Toshkovski.
