Taravari urges DUI to be constructive opposition after more than 20 years in government

Skopje, 22 July 2024 (MIA) – Health Minister Arben Taravari, who is part of the Worth It coalition, said DUI’s ideas to legalize the so called May Agreement and to partition the country into regions, following the example of Northern Ireland and Belgium, are inappropriate aimed at scoring political points.

“To me, they seem inappropriate. They [DUI] were in the government for 22 years, in coalition with both SDSM and VMRO-DPMNE, and they could’ve implemented these ideas while being coalition partners. Now, in opposition, they seem to have all kinds of ideas, which to me the only purpose is to score political points,” Taravari said answering a reporter’s question after visiting the September 8 City General Hospital in Skopje.

He called DUI to act as a constructive opposition refraining from proposing unrealistic ideas.

Last week, DUI announced they hired the American expert Paul Williams, one of the authors of the Ohrid Framework Agreement, to help legalize the so called May Agreement allowing the two winning parties to form coalition.

Blerim Bexheti, coordinator of the DUI-led European Front parliamentary group, at a news conference confirmed that his party had hired Williams to regulate the “winner with winner” coalition principle with a legislation, which according to DUI is included in the so called May Agreement.
