Taravari says he agrees with Bekteshi’s proposal that whoever loses elections should withdraw from politics
Skopje, 6 April 2024 (MIA) - “Worth It” coalition’s presidential candidate Arben Taravari in answer to a media question Saturday said he accepts the proposal of DUI’s Kreshnik Bekteshi that whoever loses at the coming elections should withdraw from politics.
Taravari said he expects a decisive victory, but stressed he agrees with Bekteshi’s proposal.
“I expect a victory, there is no question about it. But I agree with Bekteshi, and I hope that the same applies to the other side as well. If they accept, we will accept too,” Taravari said.
According to Taravari, DUI has been talking about carrying out a vetting for years, but noted that not even a draft version of a Law on Vetting exists yet. The presidential candidate said the “Worth It” coalition’s lists of MPs have already been submitted and don’t contain a single candidate that has been investigated by the Special Prosecutor’s Office.
“I said the same about the vetting that Bujar Osmani is constantly talking about. I said I am ready, not tomorrow, but as early as today to sign that we are ready to launch a vetting, since DUI has been promoting this for seven or eight years already, and we don’t even have a draft version of the Law on Vetting yet. So, we’re here for anything they ask. Our lists [of MPs] have been submitted, we don’t have a single candidate on the [US] blacklist, nor a single candidate that has been investigated by the Special Prosecutor’s Office,” Taravari said.
On Saturday, alongside young activists from the coalition, Taravari marked the International Day of Sport in the City Park in Skopje. At the event, he said he would work towards the promotion of sport and the construction of more sporting facilities for young people.
If elected, Taravari said he would insist that the future government assists successful athletes, since, he said, “the country has renowned and credible athletes that it should subsidize”. Regarding athletes who are nearing the end of their career, he said the state should provide them with a wage for a dignified life.
