Spasovski: Frontex agreement to be signed in coming period
Skopje, 19 July 2022 (MIA) – Minister of Interior Oliver Spasovski said he has attended a historic event for the country Tuesday – the first Intergovernmental Conference with the EU - which kicks off the process leading North Macedonia and its citizens to join the big European family, the European Union, as the country’s decade-long strategic goal. “European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said this morning that our country will soon negotiate with the EU regarding Frontex, an agreement for the cooperation of the border police, which will strengthen the cooperation on migration. We, as the Ministry of Interior, are ready and expect for the Frontex agreement to be signed in the coming period, which together with the EU Commissioner for Migration, after months-long negotiations was initialed in 2018. Once the agreement enters into force, the Frontex teams will be able to do checks on the border crossings together with the national forces,” Spasovski wrote in a Facebook post. As a Government, he wrote, we did everything in the past years to advance the European agenda of the country and bring the country back on the European path. "With brave and wise decisions we dealt with seemingly impossible challenges and we closed the open bilateral questions. At the same time, as a country we are not deviating from the European course, from the reforms and the building of good-neighbourly relations and regional cooperation. We remain committed to the implementation of the reform processes and the agreements. We created a society for all, led precisely by the Union’s motto ‘United in Diversity’; we affirm and promote the characteristics and differences of all ethnic groups which form the mosaic of North Macedonia. Now, together, as partners we will contribute to the prosperity of all citizens, and we will act upon the threats to the peace, the stability and security of the continent. Let us have a happy beginning to the accession negotiations for our full-fledged membership of the EU,” says Minister Spasovski. ad/ik/
