Mexhiti: There's no logic to organize early elections with stable gov't in power
- There’s no logic to organize early parliamentary elections when there’s stable government and the incumbent one is the most stable government since the 1990s with a majority of 78 MPs, which will be over 80 soon, First Deputy Prime Minister and Environment Minister Izet Mexhiti said Monday.
Skopje, 4 November 2024 (MIA) – There’s no logic to organize early parliamentary elections when there’s stable government and the incumbent one is the most stable government since the 1990s with a majority of 78 MPs, which will be over 80 soon, First Deputy Prime Minister and Environment Minister Izet Mexhiti said Monday.
“There has been no more stable government since the 1990s with a majority of 78 MPs, which will be over 80 shortly. That is two-thirds of Parliament. With a majority of 80 MPs, for the country and the citizens it’s unnecessary to be considering early elections, because it is only a waste of time and waste of money,” Mexhiti said while speaking to reporters during today’s visit to a landfill in Skopje.
To organize early elections is no good, he added, because all procedures, including public procurements, employments, etc, come to a halt at least six months prior to and after the elections.
“This affects the economy and businesses. That’s why I believe that businesses in this country will not be happy if early elections are organized,” he said.
