Spasovski: First time country has police interceptor vehicles for increased traffic safety

Skopje, 26 December 2023 (MIA) - As of Tuesday, the police have two vehicles equipped with the PolCam system, internal device designed to control and monitor traffic flow and violations. The Polish PolCam system is irreplaceable when documenting traffic violations: running red lights, driving over the speed limit, illegal overtaking, and other violations, while the speed limit for vehicles will be detected from a fixed and variable distance, the Interior Ministry said in a press release.

The device allows a video recording of 25 photographs per second, with the help of two cameras situated in the front and back of the vehicles recording both during night and day, a map showing the location in the video, and an option for automatic license plate detection for vehicles that have committed violations.

Republic Council on Road Traffic Safety (RCRTS) Director, Gordana Kozhuvarovska, presented the vehicles today to Interior Minister Oliver Spasovski.

"In accordance with the provisions of the law on road traffic safety, RCRTS allocated part of its funds for the modernization of traffic law enforcement equipment. After the two vehicles and the new equipment were presented, Minister Spasovski stressed that it is the first time that the police has such vehicles and equipment, which, according to him, will alter traffic and improve the safety of all," the press release reads.

RCRTS President Kozhuvarovska said that the successful cooperation between RCRTS and the Interior Ministry will continue with a common goal of improving traffic safety.

"Interlocutors agreed that the vehicles are a huge advantage when it comes to  the stationary devices for recording violations, that is, they highlighted the mobility component as key for the full coverage of law enforcement in the prevention and repression of traffic, in order to seriously reduce the number of traffic accidents, especially the harsh consequences," the Interior Ministry added. ssh/sk/
