Skrekas: Greece-North Macedonia energy cooperation enhances
Athens, 11 November 2022 (MIA) – Energy cooperation between Greece and North Macedonia has been enhanced and serves as an example, Greek Minister of Environment and Energy Kostas Skrekas told MIA at a press briefing with foreign correspondents in Athens. Minister Skrekas said both countries have developed strong cooperation ties, with him personally having good communication with counterpart Kreshnik Bekteshi, while also highlighting the good cooperation between the countries’ prime ministers. “We have already said that we will try to secure lignite supplies for complexes in North Macedonia and we are finalizing this. Second, we want to double our energy networking by 2030, and third, the market test regarding the gas pipeline, which will solve North Macedonia’s gas supply, has been completed,” said Skrekas. He referred to the possible Greek energy investments in North Macedonia, mentioning the Mytilineos Group, which is interested in building a natural gas unit in the country, as well as the bid of state-owned energy company DEI for the construction of hydro power plant Chebren. “Bilateral cooperation has enhanced and we support this, because we can help North Macedonia to have more stable and acceptable electricity prices for citizens,” said Skrekas.
