Siljanovska Davkova - Pirc Musar: EU integration process shouldn't be held hostage by bilateral issues
- The two presidents shared views and information on our future in the context of the EU accession process and President Siljanovska Davkova extended sincere gratitude for the strong and open Slovenian support of the Macedonian European integration process, saying the it shouldn’t be held hostage by bilateral issues, the President’s press office said Tuesday.
Skopje, 8 October 2024 (MIA) – President Gordana Slijanovska Davkova met Tuesday with Slovenian President Natasha Pirc Musar in Montenegro’s Tivat as they attend a meeting of the Brdo-Brijuni process leaders.
The two presidents shared views and information on our future in the context of the EU accession process and President Siljanovska Davkova extended sincere gratitude for the strong and open Slovenian support of the Macedonian European integration process, saying the it shouldn’t be held hostage by bilateral issues, the President’s press office said Tuesday.
Noting that the European Union has been exerting pressure on member countries, when necessary, in many other cases, President Siljanovska Davkova said “our situation requires leaders and countries that understand our position, that make sure our voice is clearly heard in the coming period.”
It’s time, the President stated, the Copenhagen criteria are emphasized in the EU integration process and the region’s clear commitment is confirmed.
In the meeting, the excellent friendly relations and cooperation between the two countries were praised, which are characterized by mutual support and respect. Also, the heads of state vowed to expand cooperation and strengthen mutual trust, understanding and partnership.
In the context of international cooperation, Siljanovska Davkova and Pirc Musar concluded that the two countries are aligned in their goal to enhance multilateralism and promote peace and sustainable development all the while mentioning the years-long support within the United Nations.
