SDSM’s Bytyqi: Zaev's resignation is a democratic move, but at the moment the society needs him
Skopje, 9 November 2021 (MIA) - Deputy PM and SDSM Vice President, Fatmir Bytyqi prior to SDSM’s Executive Board and Central Board’s meetings on Tuesday evening said that they need to prepare for Thursday when lawmakers will vote for a motion of no confidence against the government, as the country is facing great challenges, both social and economic.
According to him, at the meeting they will consider what is the best solution. Regarding the announced resignation of the Prime Minister and leader of SDSM, Zoran Zaev, Bytyqi stressed that he considers such a move a democratic act.
"We have to get used to such democratic acts, but that does not mean that we do not need Prime Minister Zaev. I think that at this moment the society needs him and he needs to rule the country further. Therefore, I do not know if we will discuss his resignation on today’s agenda, but I think there are more important topics. The energy crisis, the economic crisis, the new wave of the pandemic and the overall challenges facing the country," Bytyqi added.
Asked if he had any ideas for a possible new leader of SDSM, Bytyqi said briefly “No, it is still early.”
Interior Minister and SDSM Vice President of SDSM, Oliver Spasovski, before the meetings stated that they will discuss the latest political developments in the country.
The resignation announced by SDSM leader and prime minister Zoran Zaev, an analysis of the election outcome and recent political developments after a government no-confidence vote was filed are expected to be discussed Tuesday evening by SDSM’s top party bodies.
SDSM has revealed that consultations and working meetings are held almost on daily basis with coalition partners from the parliamentary majority and also as part of the party’s top leadership.
“SDSM continues talks and to initiate cooperation with all progressive and democratic forces in order to secure a stable future of our country and its people,” said the party of Social Democrats.
