Dimitrieska-Kochoska on UK funds: Can’t speak about interest rates without finalized projects
- Over the next 10 years the country will be able to propose finalized and complete projects for which it will be able to draw funds from the GBP 5 billion that are a part of the memorandum of cooperation signed today in the United Kingdom. The deadlines for each individual withdrawal of funds, i.e., each project, will depend on the type of project. Interest rates will also generally depend on the deadlines, Finance Minister Gordana Dimitrieska-Kochoska said Thursday.

Skopje, 22 May 2025 (MIA) - Over the next 10 years the country will be able to propose finalized and complete projects for which it will be able to draw funds from the GBP 5 billion that are a part of the memorandum of cooperation signed today in the United Kingdom. The deadlines for each individual withdrawal of funds, i.e., each project, will depend on the type of project. Interest rates will also generally depend on the deadlines, Finance Minister Gordana Dimitrieska-Kochoska said Thursday.
The Minister said, based on her current information, for now the only projects the country can withdraw funds for are the hospitals in Shtip and Kichevo and the new high-speed railway. However, even for these projects, she said she is yet to receive documentation from the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Aleksandar Nikoloski.
Dimitrieska-Kochoska stressed that the country is not obliged to withdraw all GBP 5 billion, and added that the British Government is guaranteeing that the country will repay the loans it takes out.
“Currently, I can’t say more because this is what was signed today. When we have more information and details, we will speak about more concrete figures. Minister Nikoloski was in London to sign the memorandum of cooperation which includes only two important elements – that the Macedonian Government will have GBP 5 billion at its disposal which it will be able to withdraw from for ten years,” Dimitrieska-Kochoska said.
