Gevgelija, 11 March 2024 (MIA) - The average salary will reach EUR 1,000 and the minimum wage will stand at EUR 600 during my second term as prime minister after the coming elections. Pensions will continue to rise and we will have no more pensioners under the poverty line, said SDSM leader Dimitar Kovachevski on Monday.

During a visit to Gevgelija, Kovachevski said the policies of the SDSM-led government have led to an increase of the average wage from Mden 22,000 (EUR 360) when assuming power to the current Mden 40,000 (EUR 650).

"The minimum wage has increased from Mden 8,000 (EUR 130) to Mden 22,500 (EUR 365). Our country was the only one in the region having a real wage rise during the crisis. If one takes into account the purchasing power, today's wages are higher compared to three years ago. Moreover, we increased pensions by an average of Mden 6,000 (EUR 100) and cut unemployment by half," said Kovachevski.

According to him, a better standard of life is possible only by having a successful story in the economic sector.

"Therefore, Macedonia cannot give up from its European path, cannot give up from a prosperous future for young people, cannot give up from a sound economy based on European standards and access to a 500 million consumer market," underlined Kovachevski.
