Scientific symposium takes place in Skopje to mark Goce Delchev’s 150th birth anniversary
Skopje, 3 May 2022 (MIA) – Goce Delchev’s work is synonymous with our homeland, he is our past and our reality, it was concluded at the opening of a two-day scientific symposium “150 Years Since the Birth of Goce Delchev”, held in Skopje after being organized by the Institute for National History. Goce Delchev is intimately intertwined in our nation’s essence, said Skopje University Rector Nikola Jankulovski. “We owe it to the nation, where his idea and body of work is coded, as well as to future generations since Delchev’s work is synonymous with our homeland,” he said opening the event attended by scholars. Delchev’s understanding of “the world as a field for cultural competition among nations”, according to Jankulovski, reflects his unbreakable bond with teaching and being a revolutionary fighting for freedom and equality. He announced that over 40 papers by eminent professors and scholars will be presented during the two-day symposium that will “delve further into the unexamined historical greatness of Goce Delchev.” Ljupcho Kocarev, President of the Macedonian Academy of Arts and Sciences, called for unity over creating a dignified future on the 150th birth anniversary of Goce Delchev. According to him, Macedonianism represents two things – ingenuity of the Macedonian people and their historical, linguistic, cultural and religious continuity. “The current treatment of some politicians and historians even of Macedonism is worrisome because it excludes the future from the past… Macedonia is in a confusing position today. For a European future for us, we need to construct a future without us,” Kocarev said. A postage stamp marking the milestone will be presented at the event. Also, an exhibition of 12 portraits of Goce Delchev by the artist Angel Petrov is on display.
