Renovated operating room at Orthopedic Diseases Clinic put to use

Skopje, 11 January 2024 (MIA) - A renovated operating room at the University Clinic for Orthopedic Diseases in Skopje opened on Thursday, including auxiliary rooms, a room for rest and a room for premedication.

The renovation cost Mden 15 million (EUR 250,000), provided by the Health Insurance Fund and donations.

Health Minister Fatmir Mexhiti, who attended the event with Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski, said the clinic performs 1,600 surgeries a year, and now with the newly renovated operating room, that number will increase to 2,000.

He stressed that the room has not been in use for surgeries since 2017, and that the renovation will help strengthen the institution's capacities.

"I would like to point out that this clinic is an example of successful management of a public-health institution. Three years ago, the clinic was completely renovated, and the first bone transplant in the country was also performed. A month ago, we purchased a new arthroscopic endoscopy column from the Health Ministry's budget. We regularly invest in new equipment, implants and healthcare workers," Mexhiti said.
