President Siljanovska Davkova meets MAEI delegation, express concern over state of Macedonian minority in Albania

Skopje, 5 February 2025 (MIA) - President Gordana Siljanovska Davkova met Wednesday with a delegation of the Macedonian Alliance for European Integration (MAEI) from Albania, led by president Vasil Sterjovski, who expressed serious concern over the state of the Macedonian minority in the country, the propaganda and attempts for assimilation that pose a threat to their national and cultural identity.

MAEI representatives voiced their dissatisfaction from the treatment of Albanian institutions, both in national and local terms, noting that the lack of protection and support put the community in an uncertain position and exposed to permanent pressure, the President's Office said in a press release.

They urged for increased involvement of Macedonian authorities and support in overcoming the enormous problems they are facing, highlighting the lack of a national strategy for protection of the position of ethnic Macedonians in Albania.

MAEI officials briefed President Siljanovska Davkova on their activities towards strengthening the national and cultural independence.

The President reaffirmed the need for a strategic approach in solving the status and protecting the rights of the Macedonian minority in Albania, in line with European and international documents, reads the press release.
