Third burn patient discharged from Papanikolaou hospital, two more patients injured in Kochani fire remain hospitalized in Greece

Athens, 27 May 2025 (MIA) – The third burn patient who was hospitalized at the Papanikolaou hospital in Thessaloniki along with two other people on March 16, just a few hours after the tragic fire in Kochani, was discharged on Monday. Two other patients injured in the Kochani fire now remain for treatment at the military hospital in Greece, MIA's Athens correspondent reports.

The Papanikolaou hospital said in a statement today that the three patients, aged 19, 25 and 26, have been discharged, noting that the difficult yet successful cycle of hospitalization of the three young people has been completed. The three patients were initially admitted with severe burns at the Burns Department with key support from the Intensive Care Unit, and then they were transferred for treatment at the Hospital's Clinic for Plastic Surgery and Hand Surgery, adds the statement.

The first of the three burn patients hospitalized at the Papanikolaou hospital was discharged on April 11, the second was discharged two weeks ago, and the third was discharged on Monday, MIA reports.

"Their health steadily improved, thanks to the collective effort and high-level expertise of the medical and nursing staff involved. The final discharge was issued on May 26, in an emotionally charged atmosphere, marking the beginning of their return to normal life. For the hospital staff, the greatest reward was the smiles of the patients and their families," said the Papanikolaou hospital.

In addition, the hospital expressed heartfelt gratitude to the medical staff for their dedication and humane approach, as well as to the competent authorities of the neighbouring country for the impeccable cooperation and trust they have shown in the Greek public healthcare system.

"We sincerely wish the three young people and their families, health, strength and optimism for the future," reads the statement.
