Skopje, 6 October 2022 (MIA) – The inaugural meeting of the European Political Community (EPC), which is taking place in Prague on Thursday, began with an official plenary session, including Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski alongside 44 European heads of state and government.
PM Kovachevski is accompanied at the meeting by Foreign Minister Bujar Osmani and Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Economy Ljupcho Nikolovski, the Government said in a press release.
Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala addressed the plenary, highlighting the importance of the event, which brings together for the first time European heads of state and government in a broader sense, speaking on an equal footing.
EPC represents a high-level political discussion aimed at establishing cooperation among countries from the European continent, in a time of global and geopolitical turmoil. The focus is on the war in Ukraine, as well as developments in the energy sector and the countries’ economies.
Participants highlighted the importance of solidarity with Ukraine and its people, as well as enhancement of restrictions to exercise pressure on Russia and put an end to the war.
Cooperation and solidarity across Europe can contribute to mitigating the effects of the global energy crisis as a result of the military aggression in Ukraine.
The goal of the meeting is to act in unity in order to accept the importance of dialogue in securing peace and security, as well as common solutions regarding the diversification of energy resources.
EU leaders noted that the goal of the EPC is to give aspirant-states a feeling of belonging to the European club ahead of their formal accession to the Union, reads the press release.
