Minister Murtezani resumes Brussels visit

Brussels, 5 February 2025 (MIA) – Minister of European Affairs Orhan Murtezani is continuing his two-day official visit to Brussels on Wednesday, where he is scheduled to meet with EU’s Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos.

Murtezani and Kos are set to discuss North Macedonia’s progress in the EU accession process, the Reform Agenda as part of the European Commission’s Growth Plan for the Western Balkans., and the next steps in the negotiation process.

In addition to meeting with Kos, Murtezani will also hold talks with the President of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC), Oliver Röpke, Director General at the Directorate General for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations (DG NEAR), Gert Jan Koopman, as well as members of the Working Party on Enlargement and Countries Negotiating Accession to the EU.

Minister of European Affairs Orhan Murtezani met Tuesday in Brussels with Matti Maasikas, Managing Director for Europe at the European External Action Service (EEAS), highlighting the importance of strategic relations between North Macedonia and the European Union, as well as the Union's continued support for the reform process and the country's integration.

Murtezani and Maasikas discussed current challenges in the region and beyond, strengthening of institutional cooperation and implementation of the European agenda, the Ministry of European Affairs said in a press release.

Minister Murtezani accentuated North Macedonia's commitment to reforms and regional stability, noting that the country continues to be a constructive partner in the accession process.

Firm support by the European Parliament for the European future of North Macedonia was expressed at Tuesday’s meetings in Brussels between Minister of European Affairs Orhan Murtezani and members of the European Parliament Thijs Reuten and Matej Tonin, who are the EP’s shadow rapporteurs for North Macedonia, the Ministry of European Affairs said in a press release.

At the meetings, the MEPs highlighted the significance of reforms and the dynamic of the accession process, as well as the need to establish stable relations with all EU member states.
