Skopje, 6 May 2025 (MIA) - Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski spoke with the leaders of coalition partner VLEN – Bilall Kasami, Izet Mexhiti and Zeqirja Ibrahimi – at a meeting late on Tuesday in the Government.
Sources told MIA the meeting was constructive and friendly, focusing on reform issues, the fight against crime and changes to the system left behind by the previous Government.
The Government said discussions would continue.
The meeting was previously announced by Kasami, who said VLEN finds any cooperation with DUI unacceptable.
“As the VLEN coalition we will insist that anyone who cooperates with DUI in these circumstances, while the party is blacklisted and should answer for the corruption of its high officials, is unacceptable. Tonight we will have a meeting with the Prime Minister during which we believe we will be able to clear up these circumstances. I will once again say this is unacceptable, the Prime Minister said this too, that one cannot cooperate with an opposition party, in this case DUI, and remain in the Government at the same time," Kasami said.
On Monday, the Prime Minister met with Health Minister Arben Taravari, who leads one of the Alliance for Albanians (AA) party wings, following allegations that he has held discussions with DUI. The meeting ended without any decisions. In a statement after the meeting, the Government said it was constructive and discussions would continue, with AA’s role in Government to become more clear later in the month.
