PM expects decision on US tariffs to be corrected shortly, says 'obviously a mistake or misinformation'

Skopje, 7 April 2025 (MIA) - Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski expects the United States decision on tariffs imposed on the country to be corrected shortly, saying it is obviously a mistake or misinformation.

PM Mickoski told a conference on Monday that secondary effects might be higher than the direct ones that Macedonia has bilaterally with the United States.

"We are working with our partners, the United States, and I expect a correction shortly, because this is obviously a result of a mistake or misinformation, considering that our trade exchange with the U.S. was in the negative in 2024, i.e. we had a deficit. We are currently comparing data, we are in communication with the Embassy, the Ministry of Economy and the Office of President Trump, and this was also part of the discussions of (Foreign Minister Timcho) Mucunski with the Secretary of State (Marco Rubio) in Brussels, so I expect an outcome in the coming period. If EU states do not overcome the situation with the United States, then the effects might be higher than the direct ones we have bilaterally with the U.S.," said Mickoski.
