Osmani: To obstruct the EU integration process is the biggest treason

Skopje, 9 April 2024 (MIA) – To obstruct the European integration process is the biggest treason a politician or a political party could do to its people. There’s no alternative to constitutional changes, no government will be formed without constitutional changes and the constitutional changes will enter into force right after the elections, said Tuesday Bujar Osmani, presidential candidate of the European Front coalition.

“If I’m elected president, the first thing I’ll do is to invited and, metaphorically speaking, close the party leaders and the major actors in the presidential office not letting them leave for days, weeks even months. We won’t leave this meeting until we shake hands and reach a state consensus that is over the parties and over ethnic affiliation that we will keep competing over all other issues but the EU. The EU’s directives and regulations are fixed – we either accept them or not, we either want to join the EU or not. My first task, my first pledge in this campaign is joining the EU by 2030,” Osmani said when asked for a comment on the opposition’s stance that it won’t accept constitutional changes included under Bulgarian dictate and for his position on a government of national salvation and which parties could be in it.

If we lose the current momentum, he warned, our EU integration process could be blocked in the next two decades

“The citizens can no longer tolerate politicians who turn a blind eye for their political future of the busload of people leaving our country. Which is why I won’t stop fighting and trying to convince anyone, regardless of their ethnic origin, that the EU is the oxygen for our functioning, the only guiding star for the success of our multiethnic democracy,” said the presidential candidate.

Osmani accused the opposition party VMRO-DPMNE of promoting fake patriotism. “While they are vowing not to mention the constitutional name of the country, they signed all the MP candidate lists for the coming elections with the constitutional name.”

On Tuesday, Osmani as part of his campaign held an open roundtable titled “Civil Constitution vs Ohrid Constitution” at the Old Bazaar, where he said the citizens in the coming elections are facing two different concepts – abolition of the Framework Agreement, return of the democracy of a majority model, which will scrap the Ohrid Constitution that had introduced equality, coexistence and well-being in the country.

“As a president of this country, I will advocate for consensual democracy, where we can create a society and a country in which all the communities will have the same rights,” he pledged.
