North Macedonia starts explanatory screening in Brussels
Skopje, 19 July 2022 (MIA) — Beginning North Macedonia’s EU membership explanatory screening process, Deputy Prime Minister for European Affairs Bojan Marichikj and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bujar Osmani attended Tuesday the first screening meeting in Brussels. According to an official press release, the screening process consists of two parts: an updated explanatory screening regarding the EU acquis and a bilateral screening process. Through the bilateral process, the country needs to present the degree of its compliance with EU laws and plans for further compliance, building institutional and administrative capacities as well as its human, financial and IT resources for the implementation of European standards. “These processes will be implemented in a period that would last at least one year and according to the new methodology at the level of clusters. The calendar for carrying out the screening will be determined in consultation with the European Commission,” the press release says. mr/
